Wuthering Heights | a classical music playlist inspired by the novel
Step onto the Yorkshire moors where wind scours the heather and love turns feral. Inspired by Emily Brontë’s tale of fierce love and long-brewing revenge, this playlist follows Catherine and Heathcliff through tenderness, rage, and the echo that grief leaves behind. Elgar’s Cello Concerto (Adagio) opens like a torn diary page—sorrow spoken in one breath. Rachmaninoff’s “Vocalise” drifts through the fog, wordless as a name cried at the window. Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto: Canzonetta sings the ache between two rooms that should have been one. Ravel’s Pavane pour une infante défunte carries the scent of faded lace and locked parlors. And Beethoven’s Egmont Overture drives like fate—unyielding, storm-bright, inevitable. Close your eyes: wet stone, lantern light, the thud of a shutter in the gale.
And when the wind finally stills, let the last cadence decide your path. Press play and walk the ridge: if the music bites, keep going; if it warms, linger. When the finale burns out and the candles die, you’ll know why some loves never lie quiet—and why the moors, like the heart, keep calling you back.
